The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari

This is one of those films I've been meaning to watch for ages, and it was worth it, even if the particular translation we watched was a bit strange (German translated into English with Spanish subtitles). It's a silent film, and all the better for it; you can really see where many areas of rock cabaret drew their inspiration, or perhaps I just see rock cabaret everywhere.

It's quite beautiful, and all the more lovely because the set designers didn't try to pretend that the set was real. In an age of constant CGI, it was nice to see sets that were blatantly made of cardboard, and none the worse off for it.

Ideal for anyone who likes old movies, thrillers, surrealism, rock cabaret or strange doctors with a penchant for sleepwalkers.
